Funerals
at St Luke's
When you need to arrange the funeral of a loved one, you want to be sure that you are in the best possible hands.
Our care and concern for you starts from first contact, through the day of the funeral itself, to ongoing support in the weeks and months following for those who wish.
St Luke’s is the local Church for Lodge Moor, used by a huge range of local people. As such it’s a fitting, natural place to hold the funeral of someone who has lived in this area. The Church is a modern and comfortable, yet calm and serene setting for a funeral service and the lounge is a pleasant setting for refreshments afterwards. For larger groups, the Hall may be available too.
Some families like to have a funeral service or service of thanksgiving first in Church, followed by a brief committal at the crematorium. A new pattern which many have found works well is to have the funeral in Church, and then say final farewells on the Church steps, with just the minister accompanying the coffin to the crematorium whilst family stay behind at Church to greet and share memories with guests over refreshments in the hall or lounge. Our team of experienced clergy feel privileged to take funerals of anyone who lives in the Lodge Moor community, whether they have had connections with the Church in the past or not, and we can offer varied styles of music and service. Families are encouraged to say a few words at the service too if they feel able, or our clergy can conduct the whole thing under guidance from families – it’s entirely up to you. Just contact the Church office if you would like to arrange a funeral in St. Luke’s.
For someone who lives locally, one of our clergy may also be available to take the service at Hutcliffe Wood or Grenoside Crematorium for you if you want to simply have a service there.
If you would like to find out more, speak to the Church office on 0114 230 3199 or through one of the local funeral directors.
